Oxygen Therapy for Injured Sea Turtles

Oxygen therapy for injured sea turtles.

We love simple solutions!

Spending time in an oxygen-rich environment can speed up wound healing, as it stimulates cell activity.

Vet nurse Matthew Rendle worked with Keith Simpson at Burtons Medical to develop a basic ‘normobaric chamber’ which he delivered to the ARCHELON Turtle Rescue Centre on his recent visit to Greece.

While Matt figured out how to adapt a plastic box, Keith did the physics to work out how to generate the optimal conditions inside it.

Burtons provided the all-important oxygen concentrator and the unit is now in daily use at the rescue centre.

We are delighted to report that the very first patient to benefit from it, Bowser, has improved significantly and as a result been moved to a pre-release tank in preparation for his return to the wild.
